What’s changing?
- This Autumn, Bristol NHS Foundation Trust will move to the national NHS platform for email, MS Teams, document storage and collaboration, making it easier to work together.
- Exact dates for this change will be shared as soon as they are confirmed.
- Email addresses for all staff will change to end with @nhs.net as part of this move.
- This will affect anything you use your work email for, including your calendar and logins to systems, as well as MS Teams and document storage.
- For queries, please refer to the "Moving to NHS Email: FAQs" page on the intranet. If you need help, you can contact NHSnetMigration@UHBW.nhs.uk and a member of the team will be in touch.
How can I prepare?
Before the move:
- Activate your NHS.net account, including accepting the Acceptable Use Policy, setting up Multi Factor Authentication, and creating an Account Secret.
- Consider whether Power Platform Solutions or MS Forms will need to be moved to NHS.net.
A full pre-move checklist is available on the intranet "Moving to NHS Email: Knowledge Hub."
After the move:
- When you first log in after the move, you will be taken through a 30-60 minute Interactive User Guide before you are able to access your new account.
- Meeting organisers will need to recreate any future and recurring meetings following the move.
- Re-share and update links with all colleagues including external collaborators / guests.
- Move your Power Platform solutions / MS Forms to NHS.net if required.
What will and will not move automatically?
Will move automatically:
- All personal mailbox items; that’s your email inboxes, calendar and other information.
- All shared mailbox items, including meeting room calendars.
- MS Teams, SharePoint and OneDrive information, including channels and the files stored within them.
Will not move automatically:
- Private Teams chat history (1:1 and group chats outside Channels). Please save any important information shared via private Teams chats elsewhere, as this will be lost.
- Custom pinned items, tabs and other personalised settings.
- Personalised mailbox settings like email signatures and rules.
- We are working with third-party system suppliers to plan updates to account email addresses / logins where possible.
A full list of will and will not move automatically is available on the intranet "Moving to NHS Email: Knowledge Hub."
Why are we making this change?
This is a national NHS change taking place across organisations in England. Moving to one NHS platform will make it easier and safer for staff to work together across organisations while improving security and reducing long term costs.
Benefits for you
- You can access the service from any internet connection i.e. log in from any NHS office or when off-site.
- NHS.net Connect (formerly known as NHSmail) is a secure way to send patient identifiable information so you can be confident in maintaining data security.
- You can access the contact details of over one million NHS staff in the Directory.
- A 24/7 national helpdesk is available to all NHS.net Connect users.
Benefits for our patients
- It’s secure to use for exchanging patient data and other sensitive information between NHS.net Connect users as well as secure government domains; e.g. *.gsi.gov.uk, *.gcsx.gov.uk, meaning patient records and information can be sent quickly and securely between healthcare providers, central and local government.
Benefits for our Trust
- It's not just email – NHS.net Connect enables collaborative working across our Group and with other NHS organisations through shared calendars, mailboxes and distribution lists.
- It has built-in, cutting edge anti-spam and anti-virus software.
- It’s centrally funded, free at the point of use for NHS organisations, saving money.
