The Pre Operative Assessment Clinic at Southmead site is located at the end of Donal Early Way, past the Central Delivery Suite.

Pedestrian route from the Brunel main entrance

  1. Exit the Brunel building through the main doors and turn right to follow the path alongside the building.
  2. Reach the road and look to your right. You will see a hedge with a gap and the beginning of a path. Cross the road and proceed to the path.
  3. Follow the path. You will see the Willow Cafe on your right. Just past the cafe, you should start seeing signs for 'Pre-operative assessment'.
  4. Continue on the path to the right, and then around to the left.
  5. In the distance, you will see another sign near a zebra crossing. Once you reach the zebra crossing, cross it and follow the sign to the left, past the Rosa Burden Centre, towards the Antenatal Clinic.
  6. You will come to another sign near a car park barrier. Follow the path around to the right and you should see an archway. Proceed through the archway.
  7. On the other side, you will see another sign guiding you to the left.
  8. Follow the winding path that ends at Weston Clinic, Pre-operative Assessment.

By bus

Many bus services stop directly outside the Brunel building on our Southmead site, making it a key arrival point for patients, visitors, and staff.

Spare locks and emergency repair kits are available in the Security Travel and Parking office, Brunel building, Level 1.

By train

Each station has bus connections to the hospital.

We highly recommend allowing extra time for your journey and for parking.

Public parking at the Southmead hospital has limited capacity and can become very busy between 10am and midday.

Please do not park in staff only car parks.

Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) car parks do not require you to pay on entering or display a ticket, you pay before exiting.

Pay and display car parks require you to pay on entering and display a ticket.

There are electric vehicle charging point facilities at:

  • Brunel multi-storey (8 charging points)
  • Southmead Way opposite Saplings Nursery (2 charging points)

Drop-off and pick up areas

These are free time-limited areas, drivers should stay with their vehicle. 

These are located at:

  • Emergency Department drop-off
  • Brunel building apron outside the main entrance
  • Bristol Brain Centre
  • The Princess Royal Surgical Centre 
  • Maternity Central Delivery Suite

Southmead site car parking charges

Parking charges apply 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. 

  • 0 to 20 minutes: free
  • 20 minutes to 2 hours: £4.40 
  • 2 to 4 hours: £6.60 
  • 4 to 6 hours: £8.60 
  • 6 to 8 hours £9.70 
  • 8 to 24 hours: £13.20 
  • weekly parking: £35.20 

You can pay using:

  • contactless payment 
  • coins (selected machines only) 
  • parking app. You can download the parking app via iTunes or Google Play

Blue Badge parking

Blue Badge holders can currently park free in all public car parks.

  • Make sure your Blue Badge is clearly displayed.
  • Enter your vehicle registration at the payment machine or follow the instructions shown on the machine.
  • If you need help, ask a parking attendant or contact the Parking Team, details below.

Accessible routes and lifts are signposted from all Blue Badge parking areas.

Parking concessions

Some visitors may qualify for reduced rate or free parking including:  

  • patients who need to attend hospital regularly for outpatient care
  • parents or guardians of children staying overnight 
  • people receiving regular cancer treatment 
  • registered volunteers 

If you are not sure whether you qualify, please ask the Parking Team or speak to your clinical team.

Our car parks are monitored by CCTV and patrolled by security officers. If you feel unsafe, cannot find your car, or need urgent help, call the Parking Team.
