Glyn, 59, will saddle up for a 60-mile journey across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire to raise funds for Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity, now the official charity partner supporting the 13 sites of the newly formed Bristol NHS Foundation Trust.
Glyn said:
"I'm a keen cyclist and wanted to find a meaningful way to celebrate the merger of Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity and Southmead Hospital Charity.
“I'll also be turning 60 later this year, so a 60-mile challenge felt like the perfect way to mark the occasion!”
Joined by Southmead Hospital’s Chief Operating Officer Nick Smith, Glyn will visit all 13 hospital sites along the route in one day, showcasing the breadth of healthcare services delivered across the region and celebrating Bristol NHS Foundation Trust and its official NHS charity.
Keen to take on a fundraising challenge in his new role as Trustee to Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity, Glyn added:
"Cycling between all 13 hospital sites is a powerful symbol of the unity and collaboration at the heart of our new Trust. It's also a chance to showcase the incredible services delivered across our hospitals and celebrate what can be achieved when organisations come together with a shared purpose."
Explaining why the charity's work is so important, Glyn added:
“The NHS funds essential healthcare services, but charitable donations help us go further, funding innovative equipment, research, wellbeing initiatives and improvements that enhance care for patients, families and staff.”
Glyn said the challenge is also a celebration of what the recent mergers mean for staff and patients across the region.
"This ride celebrates both the Trust and charity mergers, but it's also about showing continuity. The purpose and spirit of Southmead Hospital Charity lives on through Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity, which continues to support patients, families and NHS staff across the region."
While visiting all 13 hospital sites will be no small feat, this won't be Glyn's first fundraising challenge.
Glyn added:
"I'm no stranger to fundraising; on behalf of another NHS Charity I ran the Cheltenham Half Marathon dressed as a nurse! I'd definitely consider doing something similar this time around, especially if I hit my fundraising target."
