Pharmacy Transformation Programme Manager Caroline works at Bristol NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Weston General Hospital.
This September Weston General Hospital and Caroline both celebrated their 40-year milestones. While they were celebrated separately, both parties involved friends, family and cake.
Caroline started her career in pharmacy at Weston General Hospital as a trainee pharmacy technician in 2007.
“Pharmacy is a great balance between providing direct patient care and having an influence on the wider delivery of service provision and the patient journey. Treatments are always developing so work is always interesting, and learning is continuous.
“No two days are the same, and it’s very fulfilling knowing that my work is contributing towards patient care, either directly or indirectly.” Caroline said.
Having started her career at Weston, she did a stint at St. Michael’s Hospital, before returning to Weston General Hospital in 2013, then onto Southmead Hospital and is now working at the newly merged Bristol NHS Foundation Trust in both Weston General Hospital and the Bristol Royal Infirmary.
“The common theme is how kind and caring the teams are towards both their patients and their colleagues. It can be a challenging environment in which to work, so the compassion demonstrated by all teams with whom I have worked has made all the difference.
“There are many interesting areas with which to get involved across Bristol NHS Foundation Trust, including genomics, research, neurology, paediatrics and oncology and haematology to name a few.”
As someone who was born, started her career in Weston and has since spent many happy years there, the hospital holds a special importance for Caroline.
“Weston General Hospital has a lovely community feel, and during my time working in pharmacy I got to know many colleagues (not just within pharmacy), many of whom I still say hello to whenever I go.
“There are lots of great reasons why people choose to work there, and I hope to be part of the WGH community for many years to come.”
Weston General Hospital opened on the 16 September 1986. Caroline was born at the hospital 11 days later, on 27 September 1986.
