The QPIDS assessment highlighted excellent care, effectiveness, positive family feedback and the responsiveness of the team when families need them.
The Paediatric Immunology Service cares for young people at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children (BRHC) with primary immune disorders.
Primary immune disorders are a group of conditions where the body's immune system which fights infections, doesn’t work as it should. This means people with primary immune disorders can be more vulnerable to infections and other immune-related problems.
The QPIDS accreditation report for BFT highlighted excellent care offered to immunology patients and saw that new patients were seen quickly and regularly as part of follow up appointments.
In the report, parents were all incredibly positive about the service and how well their children are looked after. They praised the staff, doctors, nurses and play therapy team, for caring about the children as individuals and for supporting them, as parents.
They commended the design of the hospital for children and families and found it to be easy to navigate, welcoming, friendly and clean.
Dr Anu Goenka, Senior Lecturer and Consultant Paediatric Immunology and Infectious Diseases at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children, BFT said:
"We are delighted that our paediatric immunology service has achieved QPIDS re-accreditation. The whole team worked hard to meet the standards.
“The accreditation process itself was valuable and has helped us better understand and improve our service. It was particularly rewarding to work with our patients and carers to appraise and enhance our service.
“We look forward to the next 5-year accreditation cycle and furthering our aim of providing family-focused, evidence-based and equitable regional multidisciplinary care for children with immune disorders and severe and/or unusual infections across the South West of England."
Professor Stuart Walker, Hospital Managing Director for City and Weston, BFT said:
“I am delighted that the exemplary care the Paediatric Immunology Team provide children with immunology conditions and their families across the South West has been recognised through QPIDS accreditation.
“The praise from the families who they care for speaks for itself. This is a highly dedicated and compassionate team who put the children in their care first and foremost.
“If and when families do need us, I’m proud that we are able to offer the very best care and treatment here for them, in Bristol.”
QPIDS accreditation is awarded by the Royal College of Physicians to services that meet best practice quality standards covering all aspects of an immunology service, including person-centred treatment and care, risk, safety and workforce.
The QPIDS Accreditation is awarded each year for four years on successful completion of the QPIDS annual review. In the fifth year a full reaccreditation assessment is undertaken, to renew accreditation.
