The team has been named as one of just three finalists in the Health and Wellbeing in Workplaces category at the Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH) Health & Wellbeing Awards 2026.
The shortlisted project focused on bringing health screening directly into the workplace, helping to reach staff who may otherwise miss routine GP-based health checks. By offering convenient workplace cardiovascular health assessments, the initiative successfully engaged groups often at higher risk of preventable ill health, including shift workers, lower-paid staff and colleagues from diverse communities.
The project was designed to identify potential health concerns early and support staff to reduce long-term cardiovascular risks, making preventative healthcare more accessible and equitable.
RSPH described this year's awards as the most competitive ever, with a record number of submissions received from organisations across the UK. Applications were assessed through a rigorous review process by an expert panel, with Bristol NHS Foundation Trust selected as one of only three finalists in its category.
Professor Tim Whittlestone, Chief Medical and Innovation Officer said:
"We are delighted that our workplace health screening project has been recognised by the Royal Society for Public Health. This work reflects our commitment to supporting the health and wellbeing of our staff and ensuring that opportunities for preventative healthcare are accessible to everyone, particularly those who may face barriers to attending traditional health checks.
“Being shortlisted is a fantastic achievement for the team and recognition of the positive impact this initiative is having across our workforce."
The winners will be announced at the RSPH Health & Wellbeing Awards Ceremony at The King's Fund in London on 26 November 2026. The event will be hosted by RSPH President Professor Lord Patel of Bradford OBE and will celebrate innovative public health projects from across the UK.
As a finalist, Bristol NHS Foundation Trust’s entry has been formally recognised for its contribution to improving and protecting public health. Should the project win its category, it will also be considered for the prestigious Public Health Minister's Award.
Congratulations to everyone involved in delivering this important initiative and for helping to make a positive difference to the health and wellbeing of our staff.
